Solo was once the heart of an ancient kingdom in Java when the empire of Mataram lorded over the land of Java. With its rich and diverse cultural, social and religious heritage, Solo has long since evolved into one of Java's cultural centres, leading some to refer to it as Kota Budaya (city of cultural greatness).

1. kraton Kasunanan surakarta hadiningrat
The actual starting point for access to the Karaton Surakarta area is a needle-shaped monument, Tugu Pamandengan. This monument situated somewhat around 300 meter north of Alun-Alun Lor (north field) and the entrance to it, Gapura Gladhag, in front of the Solo city hall.

2. Pura Kadipaten Mangkunegaran
Puro Mangkunegaraan was built on 1757, two years after Treaty of Giyanti which divided the ancient and theoretically indivisible realm of Mataram into Kesultanan Yogyakarta and Kasunanan Surakarta. Kasunanan Surakarta was divided again after Raden Mas Said made a stand and with help from Susuhunan the Treaty of Salatiga was signed.

3. Baluwarti
Outside the Kedhaton Kasunanan Surakarta wall (the wall surrounding the Karaton) there's a building complex where the prince, relatives, the royal courtiers and some merchants lived. This complex called Baluwarti (from a Portuguese word Baluarte, means the Fort)

4. Laweyan batik village
One of old city area in Solo city is Laweyan , that has just proclaimed as Batik Village. Located around 3 km to the west of Klewer Market, the largest batik shoping center in Indonesia, through Radjiman Street. In this village you could discover an old city area built by a wealth native Javanese batik merchants.

5. Triwindhu antique market
Triwindu Market is a market for Antique Goods that hold various items and quite comfy. Placed in Diponegoro Street, around 100 m to the south from Pura Mangkunegaran Gate (at the area called Ngarsopuro, means area in front of the Palace), Triwindu Market has lots of small kiosks which sell many kinds of antique goods

RADYOPUSTOKO, a silence witness of the Keraton knowledge, located in the Sriwedari Garden Solo used to be known as Pahemanan Radyopostoko. Pahemanan is translated as an institution, Radyo is translated into nation and Pustoko is a center of references.

7. Danarhadi, ancient batik museum
Ancient Batik Danar Hadi Museum is located on Jl. Slamet Riyadi Solo on a classic building influence by Java and Europe architecture, the building is known as Ndalem Wuryaningratan to the locals.

9. Balekambang, taman tanda cinta orang tua
Taman Balekambang dibangun oleh Kanjeng Gusti Adipati Mangkunegoro VII pada tahun 1921 sebagai tanda cinta beliau kepada dua putri beliau. Itulah sebabnya pada awalnya taman ini dibagi menjadi dua area.

10. Kauman batik village
Kauman merupakan tempat ulama yang terdiri dari beberapa lapisan masyarakat mulai dari penghulu tafsir anom, ketip, modin, suronoto dan kaum. Keberadaan kaum sebagai penduduk mayoritas di kawasan inilah yang menjadi dasar pemilihan nama Kauman.
